About Julie
After more than a decade of practicing law Julie has had the opportunity to explore various areas of the law while representing clients from all walks of life. Julie began her career working at a small general litigation law firm. She was put in the courtroom on day one and hasn’t looked back since. Julie has experience in guardianship, special needs trusts, family law, estate planning, worker’s compensation, personal injury, bankruptcy and probate. Throughout her years working with other law firms, she was able to determine the practice areas where her true passions lie and developed her solo practice to specialize in those areas.

Solo Practice
When Julie opened her solo practice in 2016, she specialized exclusively in family law. However shortly after hanging her shingle Julie was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Her diagnosis changed not only the trajectory of her law practice but her entire life.
With the support of her referral network of attorneys Julie was able to maintain her practice while undergoing treatments, navigating the medical system, and becoming part of the community of people that live with disabilities. After being told by doctors that her aggressive MS would likely result in her being wheelchair bound, Julie was fortunate to receive HSCT (Hematopoietic stem-cell transplant) through a clinical trial at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. This treatment put her MS into full remission and she was able to return full time to the practice of law.
In 2019 Julie rededicated her practice to helping others who live with chronic illnesses and disabilities. Her practice now specializes in guardianship, special needs trusts, and family law.

Advocacy & Non-Profit Work
Julie has been an active member in the MS community since diagnosis and works with several non-profit organizations within the community. She is an active member of the Research and Engagement Committees of iConquerMS. She volunteers for the MuSic Movement and National MS Society. Most recently, she joined the Board of Directors of Beat the Funk Out of MS. Julie also helps run an online support group for people living with MS. She is passionate about spreading awareness of HSCT and fighting to make it a standard of care for patients diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

Reach New Heights
When a person is unable to take care of themselves or their personal finances, due to a mental or physical disability, a guardianship can make life easier for both the disabled individual and their family. The court can appoint a guardian(s) to make decisions for the person and manage their financial affairs if certain conditions are met.
Determining which type of guardianship is right for you and your family depends on the circumstances and needs of the disabled individual. Julie will help you consider all the available options and understand how the process works.
Guardianship
If you have a disabled child or loved one, it is important to know that they will be protected and taken care of in your absence. While a standard estate plan works for some, there is a reason your loved one’s needs are considered special. Navigating the complexities special needs trusts can be overwhelming without the right help.
Julie began practicing in the area of special needs trusts through the guidance and mentorship of her uncle Robert H. Farley, Jr. Now an expert is his field, Mr. Farley began his disability rights practice over 25 years ago when his mentally disabled son was denied the services he required from the state of Illinois. Julie’s personal connections to the disabled community allow her a unique perspective from which to guide her clients and their families.
Special Needs Trusts
Divorce and child custody cases can be some of the most challenging and complex legal cases. Clients’ lives and the lives of their children depend on the outcome of these cases. Knowing your rights with respect to the distribution of your marital property, debts, and liabilities can change the course of your future. If there are children involved, it is important that the parents reach an outcome that is in their best interests and sets them up for future success.
When your family is under the stress of a divorce or parentage issue, a seasoned law attorney can help you navigate the law while you concentrate on your family’s wellbeing.
As a child of divorced parents Julie understands the emotional toll divorce can take on the entire family. She has helped hundreds of clients navigate their family through these issues with compassion and understanding.
Family Law
With more than a decade of experience working in the Chicago legal community Julie has developed an extensive network of attorneys with whom she collaborates and refers cases to on a regular basis. If you or a loved one have a legal issue that Julie cannot handle herself, she will work hard to ensure that you are connected with a knowledgeable attorney who can.
